OVID Napa Valley is located in the Prichard Hill geography of Napa Valley. Established in 2000, they are solar powered and organically farmed, with a 15-acres of vineyard perched on a secluded mountaintop at 1,400 ft. elevation. The area is one of the rockiest parts of the Napa Valley with rocky red, volcanic soils. This specific terroir contributes to the unique profile of their long-lived wines which are blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Ovid is fermented only with native yeasts and the wines are bottled without fining or filtering. Ovid Winemaker, Austin Peterson combines his site-specific experience with a sense of experimentation, embracing a tension between classical and cutting-edge winemaking methods.
The winery is named after the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso [Ovid], who wrote an epic poem of some 12,000 words, METAMORPHOSES, a retelling of the Greek myths, celebrating themes of transformation and change.
Join winemaker Austin Peterson for a tasting and tale-telling exploration of these unique wines that express their time, place, balance and transformation.
