It’s no secret that the Italian wine region of Piedmont, bordered by France to the west, Switzerland to the north and the Italian Riviera to the south, is the source of two of the country’s most prestigious wines; Barolo and Barbaresco. Marchesi di Barolo is one of the oldest and most legendary families in Piedmont.  Winemaking in this region is taken as a serious art form.  Their wines have a long and celebrated history throughout Italy and Europe, so their quality is highly regulated. Unlike Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, which flourish all around the world, the Nebbiolo grape rarely thrives outside its native Piedmontese habitat. While relatively resistant to frost, damp and mist, it is highly sensitive to terrain, faring best in the Langhe district's chalky, marly soil of maritime origin. 

Marchesi di Barolo is focused on the vinification of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis and Cortese – the most prestigious grapes of the Langhe. This family-owned estate takes pride in the international reputation it has established for its fine Barolo and two superb single-vineyard crus, all made from 100% estate-grown Nebbiolo grapes.  Join Valentina Abbona, who represents Marchesi di Barolo’s 6th generation for a delightful tasting of these historic renowned Piemonte wines.

Valentina Abbona, who represents Marchesi di Barolo’s 6th generation together with her brother Davide, was born on February 27th 1988. After attending high school in Alba, a small city near Barolo where she lives with her family, she moved in Milan where she studied economics and business in Bocconi University.

During her college years, she travelled abroad extensivley: after an exchange program in Manchester, UK and two internships (the first one in Hyderabad, India and the second one in New York) she lived in Shanghai, China for almost one year. Meanwhile while she was attending university, she always helped her parents running their family company and she often joined her mother Anna during her business trips all around the world. 

She graduated in 2012 and is now working full time in the family winery taking care of hospitality at the winery and representing Marchesi di Barolo abroad.
